The Pentagon is the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, located in Arlington County, Virginia. As one of the world’s largest office buildings, the Pentagon is a symbol of the U.S. military and a central hub for military planning and strategy. Constructed during the period of American involvement in World War II, the Pentagon was designed by American architect George Bergstrom, and its construction was overseen by General Leslie R. Groves. Notably, the project was completed remarkably quickly, with ground being broken in September 1941 and the building being dedicated on January 15, 1943. The architecture of the Pentagon is unique for its five-sided shape, which is how it received its name. It was constructed in this shape due to the original site’s shape on which it was initially proposed to be built. The building is a representation of functionality meshed with the monumental scale, having five concentric pentagonal rings, which are interconnected by ten corridors. The Pentagon’s massive scale in real life features: - Each side of the building measuring 921 feet (280.4 meters) - A total floor area of 6.5 million sq ft (600,000 sq m) - The central plaza, known as “ground zero,” a nickname originating during the Cold War on the presumption that it was targeted for a nuclear missile strike.
Perfect for:
- Educational tools for teachers and students
- - Office desk decor for history buffs
- - A unique gift for collectors of memorabilia and architectural model enthusiasts
This model was originally built for blind people to help them experience aspects of a building which otherwise cannot be touched
