Perched atop a hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley, the Swayambhunath Stupa—often called the Monkey Temple—is one of Nepal’s most sacred and iconic religious sites. Revered by both Buddhists and Hindus, it has been a beacon of spiritual devotion for over 1,500 years.

The stupa’s origins trace back to the 5th century CE, and its architectural features—such as the gleaming white dome, the gilded spire topped with thirteen tiers, and the all-seeing eyes of the Buddha—embody the profound symbolism of Buddhist cosmology. Surrounded by shrines, temples, and prayer wheels, it serves not only as a place of worship but also as a cultural and architectural marvel.

Despite centuries of earthquakes and restorations, Swayambhunath has remained a timeless symbol of enlightenment and resilience, watching over Kathmandu with calm serenity and sacred presence.
